I'm intrigued - soup good enough to destroy a laptop has to be shared with the world.

I've never had a good tortilla soup recipe, and I demand it be released for the good of the Kossacks.

    •  Here's the one I found... (0+ / 0-)

...upon reading about Markos' incident. It turned out... delicious.

      1/4 cup oil
a bunch of chopped green peppers, onions, and 2 cloves of garlic
      1/2 tsp salt
      1 tbsp ground cumin
Crushed tomatoes (24-oz can, or about 6 fresh, peeled and seeded)
1 small can chopped chili peppers or as much chopped jalapenos as you can stand
1 quart vegetable broth (or chicken, if you'd rather)
Shredded cheese, chopped avacado, lime wedges
      5-6 6" corn tortillas

Heat oil in frying pan, cut tortillas into fat noodle-size strips, half a tortilla long or shorter (when you get to the edges they get shorter anyway). Fry these in hot oil until golden, drain on newspaper. Set aside, turn down the heat under the oil.

Saute pepper, onions, garlic & cumin in the oil until tender. Transfer to a soup pot, add tomatoes and hot peppers. Pour in broth, season with salt (and lemon pepper if you've got it, or fresh ground black). Simmer 30 minutes.

Serve over tortilla strips in a bowl, top with shredded cheddar and chopped avacado, serve with lime wedges.
