  •  Hey, many of us are Democrats (12+ / 0-)

I never voted for the dude.

    •  Well (0+ / 0-)

Just as the entire US, as a democracy, is responsible for the tragedy of Iraq, so is Idaho responsible for repeatedly sending a closeted homophobe to the Senate. At what point do we take responsibility as an electorate? I have just read the front-page story about "moderate" Democrats who want us to stay in Iraq and who favor domestic spying versus "liberal" Democrats who don't. It all just makes me very tired, because I see little hope of change, in Idaho or the U.S.

You sure went supersize when they were giving out portions of civic responsibility.

I wrote my first LTE about Senator Craig's predecessor when I was 16.  I've heard the rumors he was gay since the very concept of gay entered my radar about that same time.  I've squawked, voted, opposed, donated and advocated for progressive candidates and legislation for decades-- in the reddest of states.  In addition to a constant pursuit of better polite/winning arguments for personally shifting Idaho blue, I've donated time and money toward a blog whose only stated purpose is to 'sharpen sticks and poke wingnuts' in Idaho, believing a shrill counterpoint becomes arguable when dealing with the 'mighty wurlitzer'.  Like you, I get so very tired.  Every Democrat in Idaho gets that way.  But we either give up, we move, or we dig deep and find a way to rekindle for another fight.

But this was my responsibility?   Huh.  Because I didn't rig the vote, maybe?

Dialing back the snark, I'd gladly shift the issue back to the burning snark-free questions: Even though you're apparently burned out, do you have anything positive to contribute to our daily grind?  Ways to dig deep and start again?  Ways to turn this upside-down?  Ways to prevent a democracy from doing dumb things?

'cuz, you know, we're all ears.

        •  Incidentally, the blog helps me (1+ / 0-)

To answer my own question (and in case it'll help you recharge, cadejo4), the blog I mentioned serves as an effective cathartic tool for me.

For re-energizing in the face of daunting odds, there's nothing like black humor, mocking the wrong and powerful, collecting their most extreme misstatements for future reference, and listening to another Democrat that has had enough bark at the moon.
