    I actually believe a professional volunteer army is better

    but a draft would put the legislators and their children on the line

    so perhaps a draft might in fact do more to prevent war than you might think

      which is essential for feeling willing to clamp down on them when necessary.

        And I think it's unfair to say that those who choose to serve their country voluntarily are more likely than others to attack their fellow Americans.  (Now if you want to make that argument against the mercenaries of Blackwater, we can talk.)

        The purpose of a draft is to produce cannon fodder.  Pure and simple.

        And don't kid yourself - the rich and connected will NEVER be drafted.  Or if drafted, they will never serve on the front lines.

        See SICKO. Then demand single-payer healthcare NOW.
