I'm a fan of Obama's rhetoric, but I worry about substantiative differences from the others. That's not a right wing talking point but a reality: they all say they'll get out of Iraq if elected.

Here's two things I'm looking for:

    (1) Why can Obama get out better than other people? (sorry, talking about 2003 may validate my own opposition to the war, but ultimately does nothing for now)

    (2) How can Obama get out SOONER than other people? (he's a senator, with HUUUUGE attention from the media. If anyone has the opportunity to do something, it's him. I'm not expecting him to move the world, but I am expecting him to try.)

I will also say this. If he offers nothing but platitudes, I'm done with him. If he can only talk about what we should have done in May 2007, let alone back in 2002-2003, I'm done with him. Basically, if he ignores what we can do in the next 12 months, I'm done with him.

I'm not saying that as an Obama hater. I'm saying that as someone measuring the candidates on their substantive differences. I've been a fan of Edwards for coming out with good substance early on. I've remained open to Obama because I like his rhetoric, and because I knew that he would hold off on substantive plans since he was in a strong second place and in no hurry.

It's September. It's time for some action.

there are only two sides -- with the troops or with the President
