  •  Al Gore trusted Lieberman... (0+ / 0-)

... and I understand from other regular diaries on this site that Al Gore is a dream-candidate -- maybe the best candidate to have ever contemplated running for President (one line that sticks with me, from one such diary: "Gore is almost too big for the job [of President]").

So Lieberman must be great (policy positions and bedfellows, notwithstanding)...

    •  I believe that (4+ / 0-)

when Gore chose Lieberman there was no war going on, none contemplated, no calls to bomb Iran, etc.  Lieberman is in line with Gore on environmental and other social issues.  The war just immediately brought out his worst warts.

    •  Lieberman was a moderate Democrat in 2000 (8+ / 0-)

with good credentials on the environment and global warming.

When Lieberman crossed the line by pushing an unwarranted and ill-advised invasion/occupation of choice of Iraq, Gore not only opposed the war strongly and presciently, but also:

      1. did not endorse Lieberman in 2004 for President. Endorsed the anti-war progressive candidate Howard Dean
      1. did not endorse Lieberman in 2006 for CT-Sen, when asked.
    •  Cripes!! Do you understand the concept of time! (0+ / 0-)

LIEberman was thrust upon Gore by the DLC leadership at the time, and his handlers.  In 2003 Presidential primaries, Gore basically thumbed his nose at LIEberman when he threw his support behind Dean!

I'm sure Gore crapped his diapers when he was one, will you hold that against him too?
