  •  China has BOUGHT their future with US$ (8+ / 0-)

dollars made by manufacturing damn near everything the US consumes

The US has tried to conquer its future and FAILED - miserably.

I suspect that our future path will be an abrupt downward slide from "Empire"...... a painful one for most Americans who are too used to having everything they want.

On the other hand, China is ascendant - patient in ways we 'upstarts' cannot comprehend - well on its way to domination of the 21st century......

And are we really so arrogant to think we could stop China (and all of Asia) from moving forward at our expense - and it WILL be at our expense for we consume FAR too much of the world's resources as a far smaller proportion of its population.  Do we really think that it's possible to keep the rest of the world at a minimum standard of living so we can enjoy our profligate one?

I fear the future my children are inheriting and am glad I will not see it.

    •  You've either read my mind or been looking (7+ / 0-)

over my shoulder.  Here is a China example:
We have a home in Oregon and need to build a fence; Oregon is a lumber/wood milling state and although this industry has suffered from environmental laws, it is still functioning and growing in some respects.  I priced types of cedar; the imported Chinese cedar was $6.99 per board - remember: this was grown, harvested, milled in China, shipped across the Pacific.  The next cheapest was Western red cedar, [USA] priced at $8.99 per board.  How can we compete?
How on earth can the Chinese cedar be so much cheaper than the USA Oregon cedar?
I told the salesman that I preferred not to buy China and he just shrugged.
Bush has squandered our universal good will post 9/11, squandered our tax dollars in Iraq and led us far more quickly to a path of economic destruction and the beginnings of Third World culture here in USA as we are rapidly in decline, unable to maintain and repair our own infrastructure, 47 thousand without healthcare, 50% of our high school graduates needing remedial English if they go on to college... I could go on but it is just too much to think about at times.  To top it off, Bush and the ilk in his regime have no concept of all this and the destruction they have wrought and I believe they don't give a damn anyway as long as they are comfortable.

In youth we learn, in age we understand.
