  •  Naomi Klein strikes again! (1+ / 0-)

In her new book Shock Doctrine Naomi Klein terms this type of opportunism in the face of catastrophe "Disaster Capital." It is the orchestrated use and exploitation of traumatic social/national circumstances to expand markets and impose Milton Friedman Free Market principles on a society (ex. Pinochet's Argentina). It is not only that Hunt has insider information, which he no doubt does and is playing the odds, but he is actively creating conditions that will undermine any possibility of Iraqi national unity thus creating three vulnerable quasi states that will be vulnerable to international (US) vulture capitalism. Not only will this encourage Kurdish separatism and that leaves open the door to Turkish intervention leading to Syrian and Iranian direct intervention. Just how much money could be made in a Middle East completely engulfed in war? This is the oldest face of evil in a spanking new Brooks Brothers' suit. Here is a link to a series of extracts from Klein's new book published in The Guardian

There is room for all at the rendezvous of victory
