    but changing it is not in the cards at this time.  As a gay person, I just hate that.  Yet I would hate even more to have another 4 or 8 years of tyranny by unscrupulous neo-cons.  Thus I am willing to tolerate a low-key incrementalist approach on the part of our Dem candidates as long as they make generally-supportive noises.  Sigh ...

      While I suppose it is awful to consider a state by state fight for something you feel a fundamental right (try the ERA); how much less opposition do you think you would have run into had you run at a Federal law for equality of rights under a Legal Contract as instead of demanding it be called Marriage?

      Oddly I wasn't offended by the choice so much as the callusness with which it was made.  For me it was a raised eyebrow and the sure knowledge that the effort was now doomed.

      I really saw it as a completely unrealistic demand for acceptance, as opposed to the tolerance we all have the right to fight for.

      And a squaring-off with way more people than gay-bashers.  You effectively moved a lot of fence-sitters into the opposing camp in one swell foop.
