    not the society we're given.
    If you take only what you're given, how can you say you're alive?

      we're not "given" anything-- the founders were clear our democracy had to be fought for (here, not 1,000's of miles away) and watched over with vigilance.

      we've not been doing that the last fifty years-- the Kennedy and MLK murders were the beginning of the end, IMHO. but I digress..

      we also don't have much of a "choice" if one wants a roof over one's head and food on the table.

        was when the Democratic National Committee refused to seat the Mississippi Freedom Democratic delegates in 1965.  
        There has been a crisis of authority in American liberalism ever since.
