  •  How is this data collection done at the airports? (1+ / 0-)

Do you have to be stopped and taken to secondary inspection or is there some system that we aren't aware of that video tapes us as we travel and then extrapolates the data they're looking for?

    •  your question... (3+ / 0-)

      Yes

      •  Lots of cameras everywhere. I imagine (0+ / 0-)

some cannot be seen.  The image resolution has improved greatly recently also.

      •  It's true... (0+ / 0-)

I've seen some (partial) confirmation of this.

Last time I flew, I parked at the airport. The machine that took my payment when I returned kindly offered to stamp the receipt with my car's location.

About the only way it could know this is if

        a) There are cameras all over the freakin' garage (or a camera is driven around periodically -- actually, I think that's more likely, but I don't know), and

        b) The video feeds from these cameras are scanned by computers that can recognize license plates, and

        c) The system correlated the name on my credit card with the name on my car registration, as held by the state DMV.

I know each of these steps is feasible. It weirds me out that not only did someone actually implement such a system, but they make it so obvious that they did so.

I believe that ignorance is the root of all evil. And that no one knows the truth. RIP, Molly Ivins. And thanks.
