    •  The Prevalence of Alzheimer's Disease..... (0+ / 0-)

.....is expected to quadruple in the coming generation as a consequence of ever-rising life expectancies....and nobody has a clue how their intensive care will be financed with existing funding mechanisms.  Do you really believe quadrupling the number of Ronald Reagans of our senior set will be cheaper to finance than the current ailments related to smoking and obesity?

you take your argument and your 'modest proposal' to the public?

        •  you could argue that poll seems as much that (0+ / 0-)

respondents don't like smokers so much as they like S-CHIP.  There's big news.

        •  I Support It Myself.... (0+ / 0-)

....if Congress can come up with a funding mechanism that is not the least responsible in existence as they one they're proposing happens to be.  The political calculus of this is still a loser.  The working-class smokers pissed off about being singled-out for a huge new tax increase are more likely to penalize the responsible party than are those who mushily support expanding SCHIP will reward them.  Not many votes will be won or lost on the SCHIP expansion no matter how much soft support the public gives it in phone surveys.

      •  AZ is really kind of a weak reason (0+ / 0-)

as we continue to research AZ. The first problem is dx as as many as 50% of AZD may be a false diagnosis. As it is, we do not have a definitive test for AZD and it is frequently a catchall term for "I don't know" in the face of general dementia without a specific causation.  Early Onset or Familiail AZ (FAD) on the other hand is very postively gene linked.
