What I really want to see in the US are childrens'health centers in schools.  We had one in a poor school district in my city, and my student nurses trained there.  Sick kids were sent out of the classroom and examined, and if too sick to return to class, were kept until a caregiver could get there.   And they were treated by a nurse practitioner.  If really sick, she/he called an MD. Usually both parents worked so it was a godsend. But besides this care, routine immunizations, TB testing, part of overall comprehensive care was provided so poor parents did not have to leave work for a myriad of appointments all across town.  There is an ideological problem here, because the right wing doesn't want NP's doling out sexual advice and maybe even condoms!!!!!! So they have fought this concept even as far as elementary schools.

exist in the middle and high schools in CT and are a fabulous concept.

And yes, fights over sex counseling limit their effectiveness... the price to pay to get it done.
