    I fail to see how saying that Sarkozy is dangerous (for the French and for others) and that he behaves a lot like the Bushies is blaming 'you' (whoever that 'us' you used is) for him.

    Where on earth did you see anything remotely like blaming Americans for Sarkozy in anything that either Todd or me wrote?

      I have not changed my mind: the USA is losing power: it could not take control of Iraq, could not prevent Russia from regaining its autonomy. In a way, the USA's only conquest lately has been [French President] Nicolas Sarkozy! They are even losing the English...

      I guess it read to me like the failure of alot of the neocon agenda is supposed to represent some broader decline in influence for the US  as a whole, whereas  Sarkozy is seen as an American "conquest".

      I suspect a US writer otherwise sharing his point of view would be more likely to see the neocons as something more alien to American values, and Sarkozy as less an American conquest or ally than a neocon one.
