    I was making much the same point on a diary earlier this week.  The younger population of Iran was, until dumya called Iran an "axis of evil" member, very much enarmored with American culture.  They hate the ayatollahs and Ahmadwhatever as much as we do because of the repression they are undergoing.  If only we had used diplomacy with Iran, we could have won the hearts and minds of ordinary people and maybe they would overthrow these despots.
    30 or 40 years ago, I met many, many Iranians who came to this country to study at our universities.  To a person, they loved America and our culture.  I don't know if there are still that many students allowed here from Iran.  But, if not, their parents who were here must have passed down their love of America to their kids.
