It is a portrait of Srakozy prepared by the socialist party, i.e. a hostile document. It is quoted by left wing paper Libération as follows:

«"Certains en France m'appellent Sarkozy l'Américain. J'en suis fier. Je suis un homme d'action, je fais ce que je dis et j'essaie d'être pragmatique. Je partage beaucoup des valeurs américaines", déclare-t-il en avril 2004 devant le Comité juif américain.

From the quote, it's not clear what organisation he was speaking to. It may be ignorance from the report writer (is there an "American Jewish Committee"? or can the reference only be to AIPAC?), or just a lazy description in French of what AIPAC is -or a more ominous one, if the conflation of Israeli and Jewish was done on purpose.

Not enough information either way, at this point.

    •  There is an American Jewish Committee... (3+ / 0-)

      Their homepage.

They were founded in 1906 to help bring attention to Russian pogroms.  Lately, they haven't been a very positive organization: they were the group which published the "Progressive Jewish Thought and the New Anti-Semitism".

Well, Jay may have a point after all.

I suppose that the conflation of the two may have been on purpose.  I was reading it as the American Jewish committee, AIPAC.  But that's not really what it said.  The blogger seems to be deliberately vauge, by putting AIPAC in parenthesis, but also not capitalizing committee.

My hunch at the moment is that the intent was to smear Sarkozy, and that AIPAC  is simply better known and more widely villainized, and thus the confluence was deliberate.  The speech was probably really before AJ Committee.

      •  okay I search it's AJC (0+ / 0-)

Congratulating Nicolas Sarkozy on Election Victory

AJC was the first major American Jewish organization to formally congratulate Nicolas Sarkozy on his election as president of France. "We have long admired Nicolas Sarkozy as a political leader deeply committed to France's democratic values, his readiness to confront threats to those principles, and his dedication to strengthening trans-Atlantic relations," said David Harris. READ NEWS RELEASE. AJC has enjoyed a close relationship with Sarkozy since he became Interior Minister in 2002 and has met regularly with him in Paris, as well as in New York and Washington on his visits to the U.S. In 2004, Sarkozy delivered an important speech to AJC in Washington. READ SPEECH. "As you assume the responsibilities of office, we hope you will continue to look to AJC as an ally in the essential task of strengthening understanding and cooperation between France and the United States," wrote AJC President Richard Sideman and David Harris in a congratulatory letter.
