Appreciate the Open Source diaries.  Happy to announce I'm switching:  I've just finished building a new box for home use and it's gonna be Ubuntu for me from here on.  I've played with Red Hat and Mandrake/Mandriva on and off over the years, but never felt I could give up Windows. Debian's apt-get got me.

    Almost nothing has a name.

Use a front-end to apt-get. Personally, I recommend aptitude, which will do everything that apt-get will do, only it will take care of the package dependencies better.

It can be run from the command line to download and install packages, just like apt-get.

    •  sounds like an amazing box! (0+ / 0-)

      I am soooo envious.
The coming version of Ubuntu is really nice; I tried a daily snapshot a few days ago (kind of a running beta) and was impressed with what they've done since 7.04.
Hope to have a mini-review soon.
      Cheers!
      And thanks for sharing that!
