    Land farmed with horses, oxen, mules, etc., does much better. And those beasts of burden put their own soil back into the soil, too. True, you can't plant a thousand acres, and the grains would cost more, but it would put a lot more people back to work, and unsubsidized farming would be profitable. Just ask the Amish how profitable farming is.
