    He addressed Burma in his speech to the UN-- which amounted to a substantial increase in the (admittedly pathetic) US media coverage of the protests-- and he supported tightening sanctions to put pressure on the junta.

    None of this forgives his actions with regards to Iraq (or anything else on his long, long litany of sins)-- but I think the central lesson of that whole fiasco must be that there are evils in this world we cannot change with the blunt instrument of force. The feeling of helplessness is frustrating (and runs deeply counter to the American ethos) but in this case I don't know how much difference any outsider can make. Even the President.

    What else do you want the man to do?
