    I'll go rent it.

I saw war through the eyes of an elementary school kid.  Some things I missed.  Some things I will carry with me the rest of my life.  I have very fond memories of the people I grew up with in SE Asia.  I am not so sure they have fond memories of us.  That thought will continue to haunt me.

Not the church. Not the state. Women will decide their fate.

and Le Ly was played by Le thi Hiep. Joan Chen played the part of Le Ly's mom. Le Ly herself had a cameo part in the movie. Haing Ngor played the part of her father.

There were some of the combined units, as I wrote about in this diary, in the area where she grew up as well. Her village was Binh Ky.

Stone is in the process of making a new film about the My Lai atrocity. It is being made in Viet Nam.

It was good except for some real bloopers--like those two kids paying $200 apiece (in 1969) for sex with her. Umm, that may be nice to remember that way for Le Ly Haslip but the going rate for sex was about $10 or less, like a couple cartons of cigarettes.

Liked your diary, tst, and went back and read part 1 also. maybe I should do some on this topic

in '67 and '68 was "nam tram" (500 piasters) or a bit less than $5.00

You're right. I had forgotten about that. Also those guys who were offering the $200 were "fresh in from the bush" and wearing nice clean, new looking utilities. That was laughable too.

I'd really like to see something from another type of experience.
