Unless you include protections on the basis of perceived sexuality and gender conformity, the ENDA bill as well as all other similar bills might as well be pissing in the wind.

"Normal looking" gays might look normal, and they might identify with their birth sex just fine, but straight people who might want to fire us don't look at us that way.  I've seen this -- I know.  They see us gay men as something less than masculine .. and if they see us as masculine, they see us as hyper-masculine.

On the gender issue, you just can't win with a bigot if you're gay.  You can't.  You're never gender normative in their eyes.

I'm as "normal" as they come.  99%+ of the people I come into contact with don't see me as anything other than straight.  I could "fool" most of the most perceptive gaydars out there.

But the minute I'm known as a gay person, this kicks in.  It might be the way I hold my cigarette, or the way I walk, or the way I drive -- I'm suddenly "nelly".  It's maddening.

Gay people who think they're somehow more acceptable to the bigots than transgendered people are just fooling themselves.

What color is the sky in your world (in mine, it's red) (-6.25, -6.92)
