  •  The dems won't stand up. (13+ / 0-)

We've seen it again and again. Let's write to KO, Stewart and Colbert to help out.

Harry Reid is holding our troops hostage by "waiting" to end the Iraq war so that it may become an issue in the 2008 campaign. Disgraceful.

If the dems aren't willing to stand up to defend this family then they ought not have put a kid in the political crossfire to begin with. At the very least they should have better vetted the family and selected someone to make the statement who was not so vulnerable to attack. It's not like there is a shortage of needy families to choose from in this country!

Nobody is "not vulnerable to attack."

Remember what happened when the Dems nominated John Kerry, 'cause he was a war hero and, thus, not vulnerable to attack on national security issues?

There are a lot of reasons that the Democratic Party is the pathetic excuse for an opposition party that it is today. But one of them is their constant quest to behave in ways that won't open them up to wingnut attacks.

Of course, such behaviors simply don't exist. But I'm sure that the GOP is pleased by all the sail-trimming and powder-drying that result from the effort.

This nicely summarizes what's wrong with American political life today. (Source)

I didn't say "not vulnerable to attack." I said "not so vulnerable to attack." Meaning there are degrees of vulnerability and frankly a middle class family with what appears to be about a half million dollars plus in business and personal assets, driving a late model SUV, enjoying granite countertops, with two kids in private school and strong family support, does not high up on the sympathy meter rate. There are other middle class kids whose parents literally can't make ends meet and desperately depend on SCHIP. The Frosts deserve to receive benefits under SCHIP if meet the standards, and I don't doubt they do. However, they are apparently resourceful people and not really at risk of going without medical treatment for their children. A more effective story should have been told in support of this legislation. And sadly so far it doesn't appear that young Graeme Frost is anything more then political cannon fodder for the Dems.

At the risk of further burying myself in this forum, I  think it's appalling not only that the Dems put a 12 year old out there (the observation that buried me yesterday), but that they chose a relatively well-off white kid.  Whoever is making these decision for the Democrats is embracing the disgusting (and, I think, wrong) assumptions about voter behavior made by the Republicans since the Nixon years: that they are repelled by poor people and people who aren't white.  In a perverse way I'm glad the Republicans are picking on the family, because it shows that the cynical tacticians who put them out there aren't even good tacticians.  They're DLC Lite.

Attacking a 12-year old is exactly what America should expect from right wingers.

          Gay-hating gays. Soldier-hating pro-war draft dodgers. What a crew....

The GOP is best at attracting the worst of humanity.

"they chose a relatively well-off white kid"

Apparently they even have granite countertops.
