Is it your opinion the Dems have done all they possibly could to oppose the worst president in history?

Do you foresee a supermajority in '08?

I am by nature a pessimist, but I can't see how we can lose this one.  Smirking Fratboy in Chief has fucked up too badly.

Yes, Dems could do more, particularly the leadership, but I have to keep reminding myself that voters send people to Washington to get things done, not cast symbolic votes in opposition to everything.  They expect their elected representatives to accomplish things, which means (ick) compromise.  Dirty word on a partisan site like this, I know.  I think this may actually work for us on SCHIP.  We gave away the store and Dubya still vetoed the bill.  Now he looks like the pure evil entity that he is, for all the world to see...

but if he is pure evil....shouldn't the Dems REALLY be doing everything they can? Symbolic and otherwise?

Where does the line for complicity in that evil fall?

        is necessarily a given.

Since previous behavior is the safest way to predict future behavior, why would voters naturally assume that a super majority will change the way Democratic legislators behave? For all voters know, that may mean a level of war spending that could keep us in Iraq for decades.

As Buhdy said: send the progressive legislation to the floor, and make the Republicans actually filibuster. Send the bills to Bush, and make him Veto all the things this country wants.

That's how you energize the voters and make them believe change is right around the corner. Not by letting the threat of filibuster and Veto determine your actions.
