My father was editor of The Times Herald-Record in the 60s, and I wrote part of the Wiki article.  The area, which includes West Point, is very conservative and highly Republican even when it's not in their favor.

The Record, in its heyday, was one of the good things about Orange County NY, and now it's just a rag.  I never vote in any of these polls, letting the freepers stew in their echo chamber, but I voted in this one out of nostalgia and pity.

As of my vote, 6658 votes were cast, 78.9% voting "yes" to Al Gore deserving of his Nobel Prize.  Considering that the goppies are probably messing with this poll too, I'd say we're doing well.

    Thanks for posting the link.

One of the areas served by the THR voted in a Democratic county government for the first time in over a century.  Sullivan has been split for generations.  Orange is turning more and more Democratic, although it is still more Rep.

Might have been 60-40 ten years ago, but their readership is more like 50-50 today.  Gotta tell their editors that.

All the areas in NY serviced by the Record are now represented by Dems in congress.  John Hall, who represents the majority of Orange County, won that county by a slim margin.  The majority of state legistlors from the area are still Republican, but hopefully within the next few years (before the next redistricting), we'll gain a couple senate seats in the area.

I hadn't realized, when he appeared on The Colbert Report, that Hall would be the Rep from my old neighborhood.  Great!

Doesn't change my observations about the Record though.  It's not nearly the highly regarded newspaper it was when my father was editor.
