    MTR exports the danger from the professional miners, onto the civilians and communities nearby.

    1. Costs

    Appalachian coal costs have doubled in the past decade. Central Appalachian coal is "competitive" at best in national markets.

    Why?...

    a) Appalachian coal has peaked (this is the chart for Virginia, specifically)

    b) Prices have doubled in the last decade

    c) and remains the most expensive among domestically produced coal
    (Central Appalachian coal in bright pink)
