    That for every second Colbert was on, every candidate from each party would get as much time-- not interviewed by Colbert, but to use in any way they liked.  See the equal time link in the diary.

    That would apply to fringe candidates, too (within the two parties).  I can think of some who'd salivate at that much free airtime.

    There's no precedent as to whether it applies to cable; but if it doesn't, that's worse, as any cable host could mount a serious political campaign (as opposed to Colbert's campaign as a joke) and use his show to promote it.

    Colbert's idea was a fun idea, but in the end it can only work by him blasting the lawyers for keeping him from running or something.
