  •  World's simplest mousetrap. (16+ / 0-)

There was some discussion here a few weeks ago about getting rid of mice. Shortly afterward, I was horrified to find I had one.

I tried making a trap from a plastic bottle (someone here linked to a how-to webpage), but since I don't drink soda I used a juice bottle which wasn't tall enough and had a too-big mouth; the bait was eaten but the mouse got away. I googled "homemade mousetrap" and found the simplest idea that worked the first time.

I got the cardboard tube from a roll of paper towels (TP should work too, or roll your own), smeared peanut butter inside one end, and balanced it off the edge of the kitchen counter. Sure enough, the mouse went for it and the whole thing tipped into the trash basket I'd placed next to the counter which is too tall & slippery for the mouse to climb out of.

You could fill the trash basket with water (dish detergent might shorten the suffering), but I am going to walk 3/4 mile to the park and release the critter (on the other side of the river) as soon as it stops raining.
