Its also brought more then a few Reagan Repubs. Sen. Jim Webb is a good example of the converted. No place in his own party so he flips. The problem is he's still a Reagan Repub. Ronnie would probably chuckle if he saw
this happening because he once was a Demo. himself.

    •  Since when do Reagan Republicans... (1+ / 0-)

      ...talk about income inequality?

Webb talks about stuff like that all the time.  In his Wall Street Journal editorial shortly after the election, he criticized, among other things, executive compensation rates, the detrimental impacts of free trade, the increase in health care costs, and the inequality of recent tax cuts.

      •  How's about copying Reagan from 1988 ??? (0+ / 0-)

That is, winning 49 states ???

BTW: if the GOP nominee is Ken-doll Romney, you could make that 50 states.

No way the Mittster could carry Mass. in a presidential election.

      •  He grew up ! (0+ / 0-)

Webb grew politically like Earl Warren. Most Reagan Rethugs have shrunk and become even more Reactionary. I didn't say I didn't welcome them.

        •  But if he grew up... (0+ / 0-)

...how is he still a Reagan Republican, as you claim in your original comment?

Not trying to be difficult or anything here... But, insofar as Webb's current political philosophy is concerned, he seems to have not so much in common with Reagan.  If that's the case, it'd be hard for him to still be a "Reagan Republican."

          •  He could switch back (0+ / 0-)

Switchers are switchers or are they flippy floppers to use the rethug term? Never to be trusted totally. In the end I know Webb still has Ronnie's picture on the wall at home, even if its now in his attic.

            •  Anything is possible, I suppose... (0+ / 0-)

...so I guess it's right to hold some level of concern.  Especially if the next Dem president is someone he ends up not being on good terms with.

That said, he burned an awful lot of bridges on the Republican side.  Not just by running against and unseating a GOP Senator, but also by some of the things he talks about now.  I think it'd be awfully hard for him to go back.

He is, however, contrarian enough that I could potentially see him switch to independent, especially if, as I said, he ends up having poor relations with a Democratic president.  I seem to recall that he wasn't a big fan of President Clinton, which makes me somewhat nervous about what might happen with him several years into a Hillary Clinton presidency.

              •  Exactly my pt. (0+ / 0-)

He's a Virginian , which makes him a contrarian by nature. Still, you've made my pt. Flippers aren't too be trusted. Dem. today Rethug tomorrow who knows?
