  •  Excellent diary, BL (8+ / 0-)

You put me in mind of an article I read some time back. I found something that looks like it here; didn't have time to check the whole thing to see if it's the same article, but this was the quote I was looking for:

Dualism-Manichaeism-Armageddon, the DMA syndrome, is proposed by Galtung in his book Searching for Peace: The road to TRANSCEND.[2] Dualism, Manichaeism and Armageddon are the different stages of the conflict to war evolution.

In a situation of conflict, parties have contradictory goals that are, as a consequence, unattainable. This situation creates a tension loaded with the potential for violence. Within this atmosphere, there emerges among the parties the natural tendency to polarize. Parties are diminished to Self and Other. The self is exalted as supreme,[3] the ultimate good while the other is dehumanized,[4] transformed into the ultimate evil. The good versus evil dichotomy becomes a confrontation where only one force is worthy of survival,[5] and inevitably leads to the total destruction of the other, violence.

The fact that it's a common enough pattern to have a name is small consolation. But creativity isn't really Bush's forte.

Thanks, BL, for this beautifully written and thought-provoking diary.
