"Even in evangelical circles, we are tired of the war, tired of the body bags," the Rev. David Welsh

    Even in evangelical circles????

Silly me.  I would have thought that Cristians would, if anything, hate war and body bags more than us heathens.

    Jesus Christ.

(Who, IIRC, had some comments on the subject.)

I think that a lot of evangelicals supported the war because they thought it was a just war. Think Battle Hymn of the Republic ("as He died to make men holy / let us die to make men free"). Even some ardent pacifists took a powder on the Civil War, and later on World War II.

Some evangelicals are downright Ramboesque, but that isn't the whole story. A lot of evangelicals trusted Bush waaaaay too much, and of course that isn't the whole story either.

And I'm not trying to tar all evangelicals with the same brush.

But seeing a preacher say that "Even we hate the war," as if normally he would be its biggest fan just creeped me out.

I won't comment on Welsh because we don't really know what he said (i.e., everything he said that wasn't quoted) -- but evangelicals overall seem to have gotten too cozy with war.
