  •  I get into big arguments with my wife over immig. (0+ / 0-)

...immigration, that is.  She's caught the Lou Dobbs fever and can't shake it even thought I pointed out that the people pushing immigration reform are the ones who are looking for an issue to win with because they haven't got anything else to run on (like Iraq or health care).  It's a distraction, and I think I'll deal with it the same way I deal with Extreme Makeover - just walk out of the room and refuse to watch.

For the people who think it's more important than Iraq and health care, I'd ask how they suggest handling the 12 million people who are here without papers, whether they'd like to pay $5 for a head of lettuce, and who's really the guilty party, the people doing the work, or the people who hire them.

Sure, we need to get our ducks in a row on this as a matter of national security, but it's just not the most pressing issue we have now, or even one of the top three, no matter how much Lou Dobbs foams at the mouth.

whether they'd like to pay $5 for a head of lettuce

I'm perfectly happy with a second-class slave labor force to whom we don't have to pair fair wages, but for which we are more than happy to pay the externalities.

Neither of which the Democratic Party is willing today, nor has ever been willing, to do anything about.
