    I was actually thinking along the lines of having most of the paper work done here, then anything that absolutely had to be done over there would be done by military support personnel and any diplomats who voluntarily serve in Iraq, but definitely not combat soldiers. Not that it's a good answer, but I really can not come up with one, besides closing the embassy itself until it's safe.

    I'm still trying to figure out what work in the embassy is so urgent that it requires 50 diplomats be sent into the middle of a civil war?

        Anyway, why on earth do you think the military should be doing the State Department's job?

        You do understand the importance of the separation of the military from (and it subordination to) our civilian government, don't you?

        Is your next brilliant idea going to be having the military take over policing in high crime areas or something?
