... even if it turns out that the Democratic Party is dominated by Republicans, since the Republican Party has been taken over by radical right wing nutjobs.

But in 2000, it would have been hard to make the case, "you really should understand that George W Bush will use the Constitution like toilet paper before flushing it down the drain" ... it would have sounded "shrill".

Still and all, I would prefer a nominee from the Democratic wing of the Democratic party.

Essentially, most of the former "Rockefeller Republicans" have become Democrats.

      Hopelessly pedantic since 1963.

... may have to aim for three goals:

        • gaining a Democratic majority
        • gaining a progressive majority within the Democratic majority
        • gaining sufficient electoral reform to keep the Eisenhower Republicans in the party from bolting ... instant second-preference run-off voting and rolling back anti-fusion laws would go a long way in that direction.

we need to be able to protect decentralized regionalism. We also (more importantly) need to do a better job of explaining why we even need government at all. The goopers have done a mighty fine job of defaming government en masse.

That fact is, the needs of society that are provided by government could be provided by private enterprise. But is that we want? I think we need to argue that some things are so neccessary to a functional society (like law enforcement, education, national security, health care) that we need to be willing to sacrifice a bit of expediency and efficiency in the name of oversight and getting it right. Otherwise, we're on the road to corporate feudalism.

This ballot is loaded, and I'm not afraid to use it.

... worked in the private sector really believe that the place where they worked always and everywhere did things the most efficient way?

A big problem with the Bush administration is that they are, in fact, doing things with corporate efficiency ... throwing resources at problems that require design solutions, trying to run out the clock (and cash in the political equivalent of stock options_ on problems to hard to fix, changing the accounting rules to hide problems that are too hard to fix, the list goes on.

Responsibility of private enterprise is to profit.

When we talk of vital services, we are talking about things that are vital to People - People need them to survive.

Some things are more important than profit, and People are some of those things.

Government should protect and serve the people before it protects and serves profit.

            It's simple... really.

I think it's high time that we start protecting ourselves and taking care of ourselves and that means we have to protect and take care of our government.

Sharing and Caring are for Commies! They should be illegal.
