    For real writers, writing is more an addiction than an avocation.  We have to do it.  And hell, many of us would do it for free just to be able to do it.  In fact, we already do it.  It’s called blogging.

    I couldn't help flashing back to a summer spent as a camp counselor 30 years ago.  On the last day of the season, the owner of the camp thanked me for my help and told me I'd be welcome back the next summer.  As a college student with expenses I asked him if there was any sort of raise for repeat employees.  He told me that it wasn't about money, it was about spending your summer hanging out with the kids playing ball in the sunshine.  As naive and innocent as I was nonetheless I thought, "Yeah, if  I owned a camp that's what I would say too."  

    I didn't buy that shit then and I'm not buying it now.
