  •  Thanks for including the interpretation. (7+ / 0-)

It really did need to be said, but not by me.  I made a decision not to include it because 1) it would have diluted the punchiness of the original comment (style), 2) I thought the link to the Wikipedia article would have done the job (wonders of hypertext), and 3) I was hoping someone else would bring it up anyway (conversation starter). :->

You're also right that it is a sobering message.  The handwriting has been on the wall about the coming end of our petroleum-fueled economy since 1973.  Unfortunately, the message has been allowed to fade over time.  Only now that the cold winds of Peak Oil and increased demand have blown through Belshazzar's feast hall has the dust of decades been blown off and the message made visible again.

It's also a coincidence, but notice that the original "handwriting on the wall" was a prophesy about the Persians.  Somehow, I doubt the current Biblically inspired administration would even notice the similarity while they are ramping up for hostilities with Iran.

If you really want to communicate with a broad English speaking audience, remember to include a translation of non-english language.

Otherwise 99% of the people move onto the next message and you wasted your time and theirs.

Sort of like using obscure abbreviations.  Only useful if you really don't want your audience to understand what you are talking about.  I see a lot of obscure abbreviations on KOS which I, at least,  don't waste time trying to decipher.

If you really want to communicate, use readily understood language.
