      ... are up in the north, bringing the snow that people can head up to visit.

      So its normally in August when that road in Scottsdale floods out ... well, there you go. I've got relatives in Arizona, but I've only visited there once or twice.

      •  actually, it's not as simple as i portrayed it (0+ / 0-)

        when LA and the southwest aren't in a horrible la niña type drought, they also get some winter rain (and snow up in flagstaff) as the aftereffects from pacific storms that hit southern california. it's just that last year there basically were no such storms, so i was thinking of the monsoon rains, which come from the south, either the gulf of california or the gulf of mexico.
