    I think a distinction can be made between asking supporters to pose a specific question in advance and choosing among authentic questions that have already been submitted.  After all, this is common in the "town-hall" style formats used for presidential debates.

    The key is transparency.

      Remember it wasn't that Gannon was asking questions. It was the quality and fauxness of the questions he asked.

      And there are plenty of instances where "the narrative" outranked the reality. A couple things that come to mind are NYTimes "sitting on" the NSA story till after the election, Pat Tillman, and Mission Accomplished.
