  •  It's worse than that--she went on CNN (8+ / 0-)

and threw cold water on the filibuster idea about a week into the Alito hearings.  I could see not fighting Roberts--he was telegenic, he lacked a paper trail, and he was replacing Rehnquist.  Alito had to be fought, as he's not telegenic, he had a paper trail, and he was replacing O'C.

A "Dem" Judiciary member ran up the white flag on this one about halfway through the battle.  You'd have thought that she would've at least waited until the hearings were finished.

Sadly, Biden also threw cold water in another interview at about the same time.  OTOH, his record elsewhere is much better than DiFi's.

Some men see things as they are and ask why. I see things that never were and ask why not?

but Obama threw cold water on the filibuster idea to the Chicago press, after Durbin started leading it.

      •  I guess it doesn't surprise me at this point (1+ / 0-)

I wish it still did.  I'm okay w/ Obama, but confronation on any issue clearly ain't his bag.  I keep waiting for the one issue on which he will draw a clear line in the sand.

        •  Except when it comes... (0+ / 0-)

... to confronting other Dems... not every day, but he's certainly not opposed to doing it once in a blue moon.  Too bad he doesn't save his occasional "confrontational" moods for something as important as a lifetime appointment to the SCOTUS, replacing a pivotal constitution-defending, habeus corpus-defending vote on the court like Sandra Day O'Connor.

And yeah, I'm aware that he wound up voting against cloture in the end, but his statements before he actually did didn't help to bring other key waffling Dems along with him in the end.
