    ... but you can use them as an excuse to pretend that Dodd is to the right of Feinstein.

    But in a sense, every wishy-washy Dem Senator discovers his or her inner progressive for a period of exactly two years, ending with the November that falls on their reelection date, and then that inner progressive once again gets lost in the abyss, except maybe for the ones who use their senate seat as a springboard to run for the White House.

    I still don't think Dodd fits that category, however.

    Aside from the obvious Joe Liarman, the ones that surely do are Feinstein (natch), Chuck Schumer, Maria Cantwell, Ken Salazar, and Mary Landrieu, and all but Landrieu have not the tiniest excuse in the world to justify their pattern of reverting back and forth.  On the Republican side, among those that represent progressive states, there's Arlen Specter, Olympia Snowe, and Gordon Smith.

    I actually have more respect for Bob Casey than most of the above.  At least he stays largely consistent, whether or not it's a reelection year for him.
