  •  I don't buy that.... (0+ / 0-)

I know a uber Catholic fundie (you know the types.. the ones that don't think that even the Pope is Catholic enough...) who says that Romnney is the most "Cahtolic" presidential candidate we've ever had.

    Thanks,

    Mike

    •  Interesting - (0+ / 0-)

well the non-Catholic fundies want nothing to do with a Mormon. Mormons are not quite Christians to them because they have that Book of Mormon.  Might as well be the Koran was far as they're concerned.

...They'd rather have a guy who at least shares their "values" even if he's a wacky "mormon"... over a candidate who is a Democrat.

I don't think it's even going to be an issue beyond the primaries.

        Thanks,

        Mike

      •  Mormons aren't Christians at all, are they? (0+ / 0-)

Do they even consider themselves to be Christians because their religion seems quite a bit different.  That's like saying that Christians and Muslims are Jews because they are based on the same roots.

Don't like XOM and OPEC? What have YOU done to reduce your oil consumption? Hot air does NOT constitute a renewable resource!

I don't like imposing labels on other people, so I'll let them call themselves whatever they want to call themselves.

Most non-Mormon Christians would probably dispute the label.

        •  Yeah, they are.... (0+ / 0-)

...they just wrote a new bible with a lot of extra footage... but, really, they are at the core of it, Christians....

Although most fundy Christians would completely deny it.

          Thanks,

          Mike

          •  I admit I haven't read up that much (1+ / 0-)

But from what I've heard it sounds like that extra footage is practically from a different movie?

Kind of like Highlander 2 compared to the original Highlander, if you know what I'm saying.

If they claim to be Christians than so be it, but I'm not surprised that most fundies would think otherwise.

        •  They try to play up their ties to Christianity... (0+ / 0-)

to the point of emphasizing, strongly, that the official name of the Church is "The Church of JESUS CHRIST of Latter Day Saints."  (And yes, I've talked to Mormons who said it with that intonation)  This is a preemptive antidote to arguments that Mormon doctrine, specifically its non-Trinitarian nature, its placement of God firmly in the real world and rejection of creation ex nihilo, and its...unique views on American Indians and the American  continent as a whole (that the Natives here are pseudo-Christian refugees from 6th century BC Judea and that Jesus ministered to them after the crucifixion), is not within mainstream Christianity, or even Christianity at all.

So, in other words, they consider themselves Christians, even though there are pretty deep fundamental differences between them and Christians of any other denomination.

    •  Male dominated religions (0+ / 0-)

subjugation of women is the common thread.

fouls, excesses and immoderate behaviors will not be ignored at Over the line, Smokey!.
