  •  I wonder if that is what happened to me (9+ / 0-)

I was treated for a kidney blockage caused by a stone that would not pass. I was covered by blue cross at the time. The service providers sent me and blue cross bills, and blue cross sent me reports for each payment identifying how much I owed each provider (I had a 20% co-pay). I matched the bills with the blue cross statements and paid everything. About a year later, I started to get notices from a collection agency, saying that I owed a doctor (I think it was an anasthesiologist) several hundred dollars. I responded that all bills had been paid per the instruction of my insurance company, and they should contact blue cross if they had not been reimbursed.  I don't remember if I ended up paying the bill or got them to write it off, but the bill was settled. However, I had a collection report on my credit record that lasted for 7 years, screwing up my credit all the while (collections are major hits to your credit). I still don't know exactly how this happend, since I know I paid every bill that I got. This was about 10 years ago, and the service was in Florida.

Just a warning, I guess - pay attention to these guys. They can screw up your credit even if you are working with them. I never got a notice from the doctor who wanted payment, they simply sent it directly to a collection agency.

You vote independent... I'll stick with the party that brought us social security, civil rights, and environmental protection.
