  •  Why? Because this site (5+ / 0-)

jumped all over that bogus poll and trumpeted it like it was Moses come down from the mountain with stone tablets, that's why.  There were majorly rec'd diaries on it.  This is Markos' site, and he has a vested interest in keeping it reality based.

And before someone counters that he hasn't done the same for bogus Obama or other stories, I'll go ahead and answer.  Where the bogus stories about Obama or others are concerned, the site has functioned as it should, and has self-corrected. Those stories were roundly debunked by the majority of diarists and posters.

The self-correcting nature of this site seems to be broken where HRC is concerned. That is a big deal, when our entire credibility rests being reality based.  Kos has every right and responsibility to address it.

    •  no, because (0+ / 0-)

what we are not seeing at all on the front page of this site is deep serious analysis of the candidates. which is very safe for this site to do and quite ironic considering this site wants to be concerned with the election of "progressive" democrats and that we are looking at the likely election of a democrat to hold most powerful office in the known universe for the next 8 years. But the front page of the largest progressive democrat community is not leading discussion the candidates? Doesn't that strike you as odd? The front editors condemn the CNN debates, condemn stupid things like petty comment flame wars, and things like polls, but doesn't take on the heart of the issues.

The poll crap (in both directions), the flame wars in the diaries, this stuff is going on because lots of people from all views (Obama, Hillary, Edwards, Kucinich et al.) want to hash this stuff out, but its not being done by the "authorities" which are the front page editors. So the rabble are filling the void. And since its left to the rabble the stories most likely to rise to the surface on the rec list are going to come from the most passionate candidate partisans. So none of this, the animosity, the bending of data, all of it, is no surprise.  Front page stories about polls are as dumb as the polls themselves because they ignore this fundamental problem.

So the front page editors can keep crying about the "problems" with the kinds of discussion about the candidates, but if they really want to make the discussion intelligent they would lead it rather than leave it to the most ardent supporters.
