suggests how it might be useful to study this stuff (after all, Roman augers studied livers to figure out the future):

otto said, "It will be interesting to watch the GOP civil war that breaks out."

we know that National Review was different in the Buckley era; otto states that the current NR stable pretty closely reflects the wingnut mind, so is it possible for us to project what the next National Review will look like?

Who will be the new Neocons?  Gonna get racist here, so get out your TR buttons:  are Indians gonna take over America's intellectual front row seats?  Hispanics?  Chinese?  Muslims?

Richard John Neuhaus had an interesting theory a number of years ago:  thumbnail version is, the closer people are the more they fight each other.

Here's where I get into "must be smokin' something" territory:   Given that Iran appears to be our number one enemy just now, I see Iranians as the next, new "boat people," our next, new project to save them.  And I think the US could use the shot in the arm that Iranian intellectuals could give the US.

The question becomes, who's going to 'get in on the ground floor' of that investment -- GOP or Dems?

whatever the vintage 2020 wingnuts will be can be watched by our scholars.  for progroots actives, the action now is in cleaning up or dispensing with the democratic party.

        •  Who will be the 'elites' (0+ / 0-)

even the Dems are going to have to have them.

Is there a brain trust in the universities waiting to take chairs?

Didn't get the Hawaii 50 allusion.  no problem.
