    that the economic situation is as bad as the Depression, but it's certainly more reminiscent of the 1930s than the 1950s. Any comparison of today to the postwar era rings false on its face. A lot of storm clouds are gathering, and that was simply not true in 1952.

    The Republican Party is neither pro-republic nor pro-party. Discuss!

      Economy - recession after Korean War spending.
      Security - development of H-bomb.
      (In fact, the first H-bomb test was just before the 1952 election.)

      What else?
      There was the "Doctor's Plot" in the Soviet Union hatched by a paranoid Stalin.
      Nasser seized power in a coup in Egypt threatening Britain and Israel.
      Anticolonial uprisings across Africa and Asia.

      Hardly "false on its face".
