    South Suburban Chicago. Copper and Chemical. Our area had a very high incidence of cancers...the air was often sulfurous...but it was finally closed as the population increased. It was right next to a large Railroad Yard in Blue Island.
    I don't know what was done with the tailings pile...but it was very large and colorful for a small mine.

    All I want for Christmas is...IMPEACHMENT!

      but the drive around the bottom of the lake (Calumet?) and into Gary always looked carcinogenic to me.

      I should have pointed out that the Holden Mine is probably just about the best case for a copper mine, and most others are quite a bit worse.
