It's the mark of a politician. We don't really know the context of the remark from this snippet, but try to imagine him answering a question with the opposite. "No. I absolutely will not appoint a Republican to the cabinet. Republicans have nothing of value to say and they can't be trusted." Write off every Republican vote much? Would it remind you of what a Republican nominee said about Muslims last week.

and to twist my excluding GOPers from a cabinet to excluding a religion or race is fucking insulting. shame.

You're on the campaign trail and you're asked, "Would you appoint a Republican to the cabinet?" You're the campaign manager and your advice to the cabinet is  what? Don't answer? How exactly does that work. You have the candidate say, "I'm sorry but I just don't answer questions like that"? Or does he just clam up?

The sensible response, which is essentially meaningless, is to do what Edwards did. You say, "I will appoint the best person I can find." That's why Romney's remarks last week about Muslims being excluded was dumb. And that's what I was comparing it to.

the information should be taken for what it is.

Nothing more than an attempt to cut J Edwards support. You can take anything out of context and make it look bad.

I have some very serious doubts about Edwards being the author's choice before this information. It sounds to me like the author is all too eager to throw a hit piece out where they know it will get attention.

Yep next few months will be absolute dirty politics with many of us eating our own. Too bad.

I would really like to know if there are any good men and women left in our governmental offices.
