  •  Yeah, but (0+ / 0-)

this is weird. Obviously, Zogby has confidence in his online polls, otherwise they wouldn't do them. So now a phone poll by the people who conduct the online polls is the Holy Grail, and the same Hillhacks - not you - who were running around decrying Zogby like a week ago for bad results are now singing his praises?

What's the MoE and trendline on this? This is a very counter-intuitive result, to say the least.

    •  The online polls (3+ / 0-)

are self-selecting. Zogby stands by them, but nobody else who knows anything about polling does.

The phone polls are not. They're traditional polls.

Many of us were decrying Zogby Interactive, the internet poll side of Zogby. I'm not a huge fan of Zogby phone polls, either, but they're at least methodologically valid polls.

    •  Zogby's telephone polls... (4+ / 0-)

      use a different (standard) methodology.

I don't remember anyone complaining about Zogby in general... it was specifically about the online ("interactive") polls which are notoriously shit due to their suspect methodology.

      •  I should say... (2+ / 0-)

faulty methodology rather than suspect methodology.

There's really very little debate about it... they've historically proved to be unreliable/inaccurate.

I have huge problems with online polls myself, not to go too deeply into that, but my point is that the same people, literally, who design the online polls also design the phone polls. So if there are flaws in the methodology of one, it stands to reason that the other is flawed as well. I've had issues with Zogby for a while myself, but that's because I know a few things about polling.

FWIW, there's a diary on the rec list right now that has it at 32-25-25 for Obama. What's surprising about the poll in this diary is that it's completely counter to the trend we've seen established. And while that is possible, I don't see any external event that would trigger a poll turnaround for Clinton.

    •  Zogby interactives are the ONLY polls who've been (0+ / 0-)

questioned. His scientific tel ones are fine. Can't you make the simplest distinctions. Apparently not.

      •  It totally makes my day (0+ / 0-)

to be questioned by you, otto bs. Now, I could make a substantive comment about Zogby, but since this is in response to the author of The Fart Diary, I think I'll spare myself the effort.

so it must be crap. Otherwise it would be the best poll ever. What else is new?
