  •  At least Oprah comes from the South (I think) (2+ / 0-)

I don't know how Obama got that Southern accent in Hawaii. Authenticity?

...whether it's from being raised in the South or not, they've both been very well-spoken in public and if you didn't SEE them, you wouldn't know their race...Not true over this past weekend.

Just another reinforcement of The Audacity of Hype.

I spent a great deal of scholarship and grant money in college losing my Texas accent. I can turn it on and off at will. When I resort to my "Texas accent" now, I'm doing so out of wanting to "fit in". That, in itself, makes it disengenuous.

      •  "Well-spoken" and Black (0+ / 0-)

seem to be opposites in your comment.  You might want to rephrase if you weren't actually trying to sound racist...

Way to spoil a nice, positive diary with personal attacks on another Democratic candidate.

        •  Good point, mtullius... (0+ / 0-)

...and that's NOT what I meant...There are those that question the intelligence of someone with a "Southern" accent (I've seen comments here bashing John Edwards for his accent but at least his accent is consistent).

The point I was trying to make is that both Obama and Oprah are using "fake" dialects when they perceive that it suits the situation/audience. It's not a personal attack, it's a reality.

BTW, i never used the word "black" in the comment you replied to, so the inference is yours.
