imagines that an American serviceman might be subjected to the same "fraternity hijinks" as the nasty bad evil Terror Guys. Of course, I have little doubt that any serviceman so "hazed" would be expected to shrug it off; Joe Sixpack has no patience for weenies.

that Joe Sixpack does not realize that every human being has a breaking point and it is not very hard for professionals to reach it.  There has been no one captured since WWII that did NOT break.  Curiously enough, the Nazis usually did not push it with our or British troops but we can't say the same for Soviet troops

Our POWs from North Korea and Vietnam know this.

John McCain certainly knows this.  If official military records state that everyone broke in communist captivity, John McCain is certainly among those who broke.

Unfortunately, this has led to numerous suicides and emotional struggles among POWs since.  The old was was only name, rank, and serial number ... but that got people killed and permanently ruined mentally.  Now they teach "return with honor", which is more broad and allows for self-forgiveness when one reaches their breaking point.

Thanks to the late Col. Nick Rowe
