but his playing up to protectionism is something that unsettles me (sure, revisiting NAFTA, CAFTA, etc., would be good, but not in the way he seems to be advocating).

is our "stopping the race to the bottom" "ending the support of child and slave labor" et al. But Just this once you're allowed to have an economic opinion i dont agree with. Just dont let it happen again! **Grin**

I tremble for my country when I reflect that God is just; that his justice cannot sleep forever TJ

To be clear, I'd quite like to start tying environmental and labor standards to free trade agreements.  However, I don't think that they need to be the same as the US's - and I bet you'd get that same statement from the other-party laborers affected by such an agreement.  Further, I don't think that simple preservation of jobs is a good basic principle in setting trade policy.  In fact, I think it's a pretty poor one.

I do like Edwards - I continue to waffle between him and Obama, due in no small part to my wondering about his economic/trade policies.

to ours on an expedient curve. It should be based on a nation's overall GDP. It should be a hard line looked at annually and adjusted as such. If they've missed the curve small barriers go up annually. If they blow past the curve they are given a sort of favored nation status where we accelerate trade with them.

You've got to be cou-ra-geous to play the odds that love will win. Whatever city you're in. Don & David Was / Was Not
