    just "kids" who rush into fairly obvious pits. Plenty in the much older population have so little historical background that they are in effect as naive as any kid.

    History isn't predictive, but you sure have a better idea of what might work and what might be doomed with a good grounding in that subject. I'm not talking about battles and dates either. I am talking about knowing a bit about what social forces drove historical events.

    In particular the forces of big business and religion arrayed against what most of us see as necessary change echo previous periods in our history.

    Do we have to repeat the Great Depression to learn? Are we the type of kid that has to stick fingers into each type of fire to learn about burning or are we the kind that learns from observing and knowing? I fear most are the first type.

    Expecting pure free enterprise to serve a population is like expecting a garden to feed a family by simply throwing out bags of seed on the ground. (Me)
